The Sales Efficiency Ratio (also called the Magic Number in SaaS) measures how much net new ARR a company generates for every dollar spent on sales and marketing. A ratio above 1.0 means the business generates more than a dollar of new ARR for every dollar spent acquiring customers — a sustainable growth engine. Below 0.5 is a warning sign that the go-to-market motion is burning cash faster than it creates revenue.
