Ramp Time

Ramp Time is the period it takes for a newly hired sales rep to reach full productivity — typically defined as consistently achieving 100% of their full quota. During ramp, new reps receive reduced quotas (often stepped up over 3–6 months) while they learn the product, market, sales process, and build their initial pipeline. Shorter ramp times reduce the cost and risk of hiring and are achieved through strong onboarding programs, enablement resources, and active manager coaching.

Industry Benchmark
SMB AEs: 2–4 months to full ramp. Mid-market: 3–6 months. Enterprise: 6–9 months. Long ramp periods significantly increase the fully-loaded cost of adding headcount.
