An Accelerator is a commission rate multiplier that activates once a rep exceeds a specified quota threshold — typically 100% attainment. Rather than earning the standard commission rate on every dollar of revenue, a rep with an accelerator earns a higher rate (e.g., 1.5x or 2x) on every dollar above the threshold. Accelerators are the most powerful tool for driving overperformance and retaining top producers who are capable of blowing past quota. Poorly designed accelerators can create unexpected compensation liability.
